I feel SO lucky to have led our chapter this past year and want to share a few of our highlights from 2017. Thank you everyone for contributing to our success and for allowing me to lead the chapter. It’s been my genuine honor.

We have had a great year, packed with value for our members. It takes a large group of dedicated members and committee participants, along with the financial support of our sponsors, to provide such a broad range of program opportunities, which this year totaled 12 well-attended, educational, and interesting programs and events, in addition to a number of casual get-togethers.

Highlights have included:

  • Celebration of our 30th anniversary year
  • A Blue Ribbon Award Program which honored 11 spectacular commercial real estate projects
  • Three professional development programs featuring interesting and topical subjects
  • Three major programs and co-sponsorship of a networking event with CoreNet
  • Co-sponsorship of The Commercial Real Estate’s annual Women of FIRE award program
  • 23 new members
  • Our fifth annual CREW Careers program involved 20 members and insights to 30 Hartford area high school students

Active Committee Participation

Our membership committee, led by Janet Wheeler and Katie Pelczar brought in 23 new members this year alone! That is unprecedented and speaks to their pro-active efforts in recruiting and making sure folks know the value of a CREW membership. They held prospective member breakfasts and New Member get-togethers in addition to a monthly informal Thirsty Third Thursday. Great job this year, ladies.

Our Blue Ribbon event, chaired by Lisa Chapman and Kelsey Rath, was also a spectacular success. Their committee worked diligently to collect and vet nominations and then celebrate all the winners at the Science Center in April with close to 200 guests gathered for the festivities. This event continues to be recognized as THE go-to spring commercial real estate awards in Connecticut.

Our programs committee, led by Andrea Gomes and Jamar Arbelo put on 4 fantastic events this year: a symposium on Assisted Living, a partner party with CoreNet at The Hartford penthouse with executives of The Hartford and Mayor of Hartford all together; an innovation/entrepreneurship panel and, most recently, a beautiful celebration of our Chapter’s 30th anniversary which honored our Founding and Legacy members and allowed us to thank them for all of their hard work over the years. Great job, program chairs!

Our professional development committee was led by Joann Fenty and Lisa Lugauskas and focused on a variety of interesting topics that our members suggested. They offered three fantastic lunch-and-learn programs which covered tax assessments, personal branding, and channeling social media into opportunity. These were all well attended and well-received. Thanks for providing great content for our members this year!

CREW Careers was a huge hit once again in 2017. We celebrated our 5th annual day-long event with local high-school girls, exposing them to all the different aspects of commercial real estate through an engaging, interactive program. At the Colt Gateway, 30 girls toured the property (selfies in the dome were a big hit!) and heard from Hartford city leaders and several CREW members about their real estate-related professions. This event is close to my heart as it is one that I co-chaired a few years back and honestly, it just gets better and better each year. Congrats to Kate Mylod and Steph Cabral and their committee for all their hard work and dedication to making this the best year yet!

The backbone of our chapter has some folks that I also want to recognize for their tremendous efforts throughout 2017.

Monika Avery, our CREW Network Delegate, has attended Leadership Summits and CREW Conventions throughout the US and Canada this year. This high degree of involvement assures that our members are plugged into the broader CREW network in a meaningful way and our members are able to access all that the Network can offer each of us professionally and personally. Monika keeps the “big picture” vision front and center for us and for that, we remain SO grateful.

Our communications team, led by Bridget Chase and Jackie Barrett and anchored by Anne Elvgren has continued to produce timely news, PR, and a robust social media presence that has elevated our chapter within the state, the region and even nationwide.

Jen Marks and Jenna Bennetti were at the sponsorship helm this year and got it done….and then some. They secured sponsors for our events and programs and made sure that the sponsors were appropriately thanked and recognized whenever possible. (Big shoes for me to fill as the past president steps into that role. Thanks for paving the way ladies-I’ll try to keep up in ’18.)

Melissa Ferrucci, our trusty treasurer – is reliable, timely, accurate (all good qualities for a treasurer to have) and most importantly, always has a smile and great advice for our chapter. Thank you for all that you do Melissa.

Liz Strole served as our secretary in 2017 and I think that means she has played almost every role in our chapter during her Board tenure. Liz is dedicated to our work and to her profession in a way that is steady and calming. We appreciate everything that she has done and continues to do for us.

Colleen Sheridan– our President Elect. Colleen has had the privilege (or burden) to be our Cruise Director this year! The President Elect traditionally plans all the social events and Colleen is no exception. She put on a beautiful Summer Social in Essex where we celebrated our 30th in style with caricatures and a LOT of wine! She represented CREW beautifully at the Women of FIRE awards as their keynote speaker. She single-handedly pulled off the Fall Dinner overlooking the Hartford skyline in a fantastic venue and on a fantastic evening weather-wise with a local brewery as a fun twist. And last, but certainly not least, she is responsible for our beautiful holiday event at The Bushnell’s Autorino Hall, not only in all the planning and logistics, but also generously sponsoring the event with her RM Bradley colleagues. Thank you, Colleen, for keeping us on track in meetings, helping out with just about everything, and BEST of LUCK next year as PRESIDENT!

The success of our organization is only possible through You, our members, who chose to take time out of your busy schedules to come to our programs and events and participate on our committees.

And finally, we can only provide programs by relying on our Annual sponsors, so in our CREW tradition, I would like to recognize all of our generous sponsors.

Thank you everyone for contributing to our success this year and for allowing me to lead the chapter. It’s been my genuine honor and I look forward to 2018.
